Chennai: Tamil Nadu BJP president Annamalai on Thursday announced state-wide protest on June 22 over deaths of people after consuming illicit liquor in Kallakurichi. 34 people died and over 100 hospitalised in various hospitals after consuming illicit liquor, reported PTI. Annamalai wrote on X, "Deeply saddened by the tragic death of 35 invaluable lives after consuming illicit liquor in Kallakurichi. On behalf of @BJP4TamilNadu we will be visiting Kallakurichi to share the sorrows of the families who have lost their dear ones in this dreaded incident. @BJP4TamilNadu extends its fullest support to the bereaved families." The state BJP president said that the deaths by illicit liquor in the past 2 years under the DMK regime in Tamil Nadu have decelerated Tamil Nadu by 4 decades. The BJP leader demanded the Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M K Stalin to dismiss the Prohibition Minister. "We request the Chief Minister to ponder if he has the righteousness to continue in his position after the gruesome death of over 60 lives due to illicit liquor in the last 2 years," he said. Tamil Nadu CM M K Stalin expressed shock over the news of the deaths of people who had consumed adulterated liquor in Kallakurichi. Stalin said that such crimes that ruin the society will be suppressed with an iron fist.
